A wall of imagined faces. A dystopian society of Omegans—the anti-citizens of Ntenta’s imaginary universe. Subjects trapped in a moment of great despair. A wall of distorted caricatures of ourselves. A society in fragments. Objects trapped under our gaze. The viewer is caught in the middle, confronted with the question: What have we done to ourselves?

The work explores questions of existence—both at the individual and societal level. How do we choose, and are we ever truly able to choose, within a society that shapes our being? How does the presence of others affect who we become? Freedom, happiness, and reason are all fragile when we coexist with others, yet impossible without them.

The installation unveils the silent violence of conformity: our willingness to trade authenticity for acceptance, to reduce ourselves for belonging. We want to impress the Others, gain their approval, afraid of what they might be thinking of us—objectifying ourselves, becoming less than beings. Ntenta has taken a fragment of her imaginary universe and transformed a small corner of our world into an environment where time stops, inviting the viewer to pause, take a step back, and reflect on how we choose to be—shaping the essence of our existence.

The installation is part of an ongoing artwork, The Omegans Project, which began in 2019 and will continue until 10,890 Omegans have been imagined. Exploring the elusive nature of ownership, no Omegan has ever—or will ever—be sold individually. Collectors may possess editions, but never the original Omegans. All Omegans will remain together until the completion of the project, when all 10,890 Omegans will enter a museum collection, ensuring they remain accessible to the public.

Who's the impostor after all?
